Dr Eleanor Higgins is a Consultant Dermatologist with a special interest in Medical Dermatology.
She graduated with honours from the National University of Ireland Galway in 2006, first in her class in medicine and was awarded Gold Medals in Medicine, Ophthalmology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Higgins completed specialist training in Dermatology in Ireland and was awarded the O’Loughlin Gold Medal in Dermatology for first place in the National Dermatology Trainee exam.
Eleanor moved to the world-renowned St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, London in 2014, to undertake the highly competitive Senior Clinical Fellowship in Medical Dermatology and Therapeutics. She was then appointed to the post of Consultant Dermatologist in 2015, specialising in complex medical Dermatology team until returning to Ireland in 2019. She now works as a Consultant Dermatologist at the Blackrock Clinic.
Dr Higgins has a special interest in medical education, and has completed a Masters of Science in Medical Education from Queens University Belfast.
During her time as a consultant at the St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, she was lead for Postgraduate Education in Dermatology. As Director of the DermAcademy, she delivered multiple successful educational courses to GPs, Dermatologists and Nurses across all aspects of Dermatology. She was also course leader of the MSc in Clinical Dermatology at King’s College London.
Her clinical interests include General and Medical Dermatology such as acne, atopic dermatitis ( eczema ), psoriasis, hair loss, disorder of pigmentation, photobiology, skin lesions, mole checks and skin cancer.
